Aki Laine is a seasoned design leader with a proven track record of building high-performing teams and shaping award-winning products and experiences in the consumer electronics industry. Over the course of his career, he has played a pivotal role in designing and launching innovative products for globally recognized brands, including Nokia, Hewlett-Packard, and Sonos.
Currently based in Santa Barbara, CA, Aki serves as the Director of Industrial Design and CMF at Sonos, where he leads the industrial design and CMF teams from early concept development through mass production. His work ensures that every Sonos product embodies thoughtful design, premium materials, and a seamless user experience.
Aki began his career in 2004 at Nokia Design in Helsinki, a role that took him to Copenhagen and Los Angeles. As Lead Designer, he was instrumental in shaping several iconic products for global markets, including the Nokia Lumia 900, Nokia 6600 Slide, and Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition. Before joining Sonos in 2015 as a Principal Designer, he was Senior Industrial Designer at Hewlett-Packard, where he helped define the design direction for the company’s global consumer product portfolio.
With over 20 years of experience in the consumer electronics industry, Aki has built a strong portfolio of commercially successful and critically acclaimed designs. His work has been featured in numerous publications, earned multiple patents and industry awards, and contributed to shaping the future of connected experiences.
Aki holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from the Design Institute, Lahti University of Applied Sciences, where he graduated with highest honors.
